Why We Started

Our "why"

Drawing on over 20 years of experience in the health and wellness industry, Jen Cooper founded Habits for Hope to start a movement that brings health coaching services to those in recovery from addiction.

For Jen, this is personal. She lost her little brother, Wayne, to an opioid overdose on June 26, 2017 after a long battle with addiction.

Over the years, Jen noticed that whenever Wayne was doing well in his recovery, he was excited to talk about his new fitness program or the best new protein shake. There was no doubt that Wayne feeling strong and positive—like he could really fight this time—was connected to these actions of self-care.

Wayne was in and out of treatment centers for years. However, none of the programs or professionals he worked with helped him build or maintain these healthy habits. And yet, addiction experts agree that implementing new fitness, nutrition, and lifestyle habits is essential for maintaining recovery.

Jen’s personal and professional experience have put her in a position to help bridge this gap.

As a coaching leader at Precision Nutrition, one of the world’s top nutrition coaching and education companies, Jen has worked with thousands of men and women as a health coach. She has also had the opportunity to work alongside some of the leading minds in nutrition, fitness, behavior change, and the habit-based approach to positive change.

Jen has witnessed first-hand how habit-based health coaching can help people overcome obstacles they never thought possible. Through Habits for Hope, she is focusing her expertise on a demographic she knows can benefit from these services.

She believes we can do better as a society in how we approach recovery and the addiction epidemic that we’re facing.

There is hope out there.

With your support, and knowing her brother is cheering her on, Jen is confident Habits for Hope can reach people in recovery and help them stay there—one positive habit at a time.
