What We Do
At Habits for Hope, we empower those in recovery from addiction to become stronger in body and mind than they ever thought possible.
We do this by offering habit-based health coaching.
Health Coaching and Recovery
Addiction experts agree that implementing habits around fitness, nutrition, and lifestyle is essential for maintaining recovery.
Proper nutrition, physical activity, and sleep improve energy levels and brain function, enabling the body and mind to function optimally. What’s more, by practicing self-care, one begins to cultivate feelings of self-worth, strength, and resiliency.
Health coaches are in a unique position to help people in recovery take advantage of these benefits.
The health coaching industry has grown exponentially over the last 10 years and is becoming a key piece of the larger healthcare system.
Though most of the research showing the positive effects of health coaching has been conducted in the general population, it serves as a highly persuasive example of just how powerful this approach can be.
For example, an estimated 85 percent of avoidable health care spending is attributed to behavioral factors and ineffective self-management of chronic disease.
Health coaches specialize in exactly this type of behavior change and are widely used to reduce these costs. They can spend more time with individuals compared to medical professionals, thus, offering ongoing support, suggestions and accountability.
For these reasons, we have a powerful opportunity to utilize this up-and-coming profession to fill an often-overlooked gap in the addiction recovery process.
What is Health Coaching?
Health coaching is a service where a supportive mentor, known as a health coach, works with clients to help them improve their overall health and well-being through physical, nutritional, and lifestyle changes.
It’s a process that facilitates sustainable behavior change by encouraging clients to develop their inner wisdom and identify their goals, values, strengths, and motivations.
Health coaches are educated in the latest health, nutrition, and exercise research, trained in strategies for cultivating optimal well-being, and able to bring it all into a supportive relationship.
Health coaches look at all aspects of wellness and support clients in transforming their goals into action. They guide the process of behavior change by offering accountability, practical advice, and an opportunity to talk through obstacles.
At Habits for Hope, we use a habit-based coaching framework. Goals are broken down into small steps, or habits, and one new behavior is focused on at a time. Once one habit is mastered, another is added — dramatically increasing the likelihood of success.
Small, consistent steps build upon each other, fostering lasting personal and professional empowerment.
Health coaching helps people feel empowered, confident, and strong. With some guidance, individuals are able to draw from within and incorporate actions into their daily lives that can improve their outlook and better equip them to face challenges ahead.
